Park Place Christian Academy senior Josh Jones recently signed a Letter of Intent to play sports for Grinnell College in Iowa this fall. PEARL – Park Place Christian Academy (PPCA) senior Joshua Tyler Jones recently signed his letter of intent to play sports for Grinnell College in Iowa next fall.

The oldest son of Wendell and Lisa Jones of Richland, Josh is known at PPCA for his intellect as a scholar and for his prowess in sports, particularly in basketball, football, and track.

Josh is also the grandson of Harvie and Carolyn Foster of Florence, Miss., and Lacy and Linda Owten of Clarksdale, Miss., and older brother to Jacob, a sixth-grade student at PPCA.

A student at PPCA since 2015, Josh is a member of the BETA Club, the Fellowship of Christian Athletes, the National Honor Society, PPCA’s Mentorship Program, and is a member of Word of Life Church.

Through his years at PPCA, Jones has earned a 4.0 GPA and has held positions of leadership, earning the admiration of his peers and faculty members.

He plans to pursue a degree in Computer Science at Grinnell College, which was listed in 2021 by U.S. News & World Report as the 7th best liberal arts college for both “Best Value” and “Most Innovative” college.

Jones will play for the Grinnell Pioneers in the Midwest Conference at the NCAA Division III level.

Grinnell College’s alumni include Gary Cooper, Herbie Hancock, 14 Rhodes Scholars, 119 Fulbright Scholars, and one Nobel laureate.

While at PPCA, Josh was coached by several coaches, including Head Football Coach Doug Elkins, Varsity Boys Basketball Coach Corey McElveen, and Track and Field Coach Rod Morris.

Jason Cook is PPCA’s Head of School and Athletic Director, and the Secondary Principal is Stacey Sykes.
